RHONY’s Ubah Hassan Reveals She Mistook Boyfriend Oliver Daschel for Another ‘Frog’ After His Awkward Pickup Line

Ubah Hassan has learned not to be easily impressed, especially after years of dealing with many “frogs” before finding her prince. Reflecting on her relationship with her boyfriend, Oliver Daschel, the Real Housewives of New York City star, 41, shared her story during a recent appearance on The Happy Hour on SiriusXM’s TODAY Show Radio. She opened up about their unconventional meeting and why she initially wasn’t charmed by his approach.

Hassan and Daschel first crossed paths in 2018 at a dinner she hosted for a friend’s birthday. However, it wasn’t until “a few years later” that they were properly introduced at a charity board meeting with Hassan’s mentor, Kathleen. “I showed up there with my Ubah hat on, and we chatted a bit. Then, Oliver came up to me and said, ‘We’ve met before,’” she recalled. “And I thought, ‘Oh my God, I’ve heard this line so many times from guys.’ It’s such a classic way to start a conversation.”

Though she was tempted to reply with a sarcastic “Where, PornHub?” Hassan held back. Daschel then started naming their mutual acquaintances—some of whom were “very famous.” This made Hassan wary, as she thought anyone could have found that information through a quick Google search.

“In my head, I was thinking, ‘You deal with so many frogs in life that when a real man comes along, everything they say makes you roll your eyes a bit,’” she admitted. “I thought, ‘Of course you know them because I’m out with them all the time.’”

But the moment that made Hassan reconsider came when Daschel mentioned a close mutual friend who wasn’t on social media. “Wait a second, this guy actually does know me,” she thought. It was then that she remembered meeting him at a previous dinner and cringed internally, thinking, “Oh my God, I had such a bad wig that day!”

From there, things progressed. Daschel got her phone number through a mutual friend, a gesture that Hassan appreciated since their connection wasn’t through a dating app. “I had no expectations of meeting someone,” she admitted. Ironically, she had sworn off dating just “two days before that.”

Hassan first revealed she was seeing someone during episode 13 of the RHONY reboot, confiding in her costar Sai De Silva after Sai’s husband, David Craig, asked why she was still single. But the news soon spread, and Hassan felt betrayed when De Silva shared her secret with other cast members Erin Lichy and Brynn Whitfield.

In a confessional, Hassan expressed her frustration: “The whole thing was confidential, so she must have heard from Sai. But for Brynn to mention part of that, I’m just like, ‘B—-, you don’t deserve a birthday, we should take you to McDonald’s drive-thru, and no fries for you.’”

Despite the initial drama, Hassan and Daschel’s relationship continued to grow stronger. They made their red carpet debut at the 2023 American Ballet Theatre Fall Gala at Lincoln Center in New York City, officially taking their relationship public.
