RHOSLC’s Mary Cosby Trades 2003 Dom Perignon for Beer and Feels Like Royalty

Mary Cosby is trading in her beloved 2003 Dom Perignon champagne for something a little less refined—a casual beer. And surprisingly, she’s feeling quite “regal” about this unexpected swap. As it turns out, the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star had never even tasted beer before her recent experience.

A First Taste in Miller Valley

The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City delves into the luxurious lives of its cast members, including Mary Cosby, who had never tried beer until a recent trip to the Miller Valley caves. During this cast outing, Mary was introduced to what the guide called the “champagne of beers.” Intrigued by the offering, Mary couldn’t resist poking fun, asking, “Really? What year is it?” before quickly adding with a laugh, “No, I’m kidding.”

Heather Gay, one of Mary’s co-stars, couldn’t help but comment on the situation. “Does Mary realize this is the champagne of beers?” she quipped, playfully imagining the shift in Mary’s preferences. “If we can swap that Miller High Life for her Dom Perignon 2003, think of the money she’ll save,” Heather joked. To everyone’s surprise, Mary admitted she liked the beer, marveling, “I had no clue there was an upscale beer.”

A Longtime Love for Dom Perignon

Despite this new experience, Mary’s heart still lies with her all-time favorite, the 2003 Dom Perignon. She first shared her affinity for this vintage with her co-stars at a party four years ago, declaring, “You know what, guys? I’m drinking a Dom Perignon 2003.”

Mary’s enthusiasm for the 2003 vintage stems from its unique history. “In 2003, it was a heatwave. 5,600 people died, and it made the best grapes of all time,” she explained to her fellow cast members, a line that has since become one of the most memorable quotes from the show.

In reality, the heatwave of 2003 was even more devastating, claiming around 65,000 lives during what remains one of Europe’s hottest summers on record since at least 1540. The extreme heat produced grapes that year which are known for their exceptional quality, making the wines of 2003 highly sought after.

A New Taste and an Old Favorite

While Mary Cosby may have discovered a new appreciation for beer, her true passion for fine champagne, especially her cherished 2003 Dom Perignon, remains a signature part of her character on RHOSLC. Whether she’s toasting with a glass of bubbly or enjoying a more down-to-earth beer, Mary’s unique perspective and flair for luxury continue to keep fans entertained.
