From Marriage to Manager: Ashley Darby Exposes the Challenges of Working for Her Ex-Husband

The star of The Real Housewives of Potomac (RHOP), Ashley Darby, recently opened up about her complicated relationship with her ex-husband, Michael Darby—not just as a spouse, but also as an employer. Following their split in 2022 after eight years of marriage, Ashley is candidly sharing the challenges she faced while working under Michael’s management.

A Marriage and Career Entwined

Before becoming a well-known face on RHOP, Ashley worked as a bartender at one of Michael’s restaurants. Their professional relationship didn’t end there, as she later took on other roles within his business ventures. Reflecting on that experience, Ashley admitted:
“You know, I worked with my ex-husband, and that was not pleasant.”

Her co-star Keiarna’s comment about being called “an employee” by her own partner struck a chord with Ashley, who empathized. Managing both a marriage and a working relationship proved to be a difficult balance. Michael, a wealthy Australian restaurateur and real estate mogul, was not an easy person to report to professionally, she revealed.

From Business Partners to Co-Parents

The couple initially separated during the closure of their restaurant, Oz, but reconciled and welcomed two sons: Dean, now 5, and Dylan, 3. Despite these efforts, the marriage officially ended in 2022, with Ashley citing that they had grown apart.
“We are now at very different stages in our lives and have different goals for our futures,” Ashley shared, adding that their decision to separate was mutual.

While they no longer maintain a personal relationship, they continue to co-parent their children effectively. During BravoCon 2023, Ashley shared:
“All they know is that they have two houses and double the toys, so that’s been good.”

Moving On with New Beginnings

Post-divorce, Ashley turned her focus to her personal and professional growth. She launched her yoga brand, ZenGem, and briefly dated Summer House star Luke Gulbranson. However, the relationship ended after three months, and this time, Ashley quipped, she was not employed by her romantic partner.

Though she acknowledged that there were “professional and financial benefits” to being married to Michael, Ashley has embraced her independence. RHOP viewers now see her working tirelessly to sustain her lifestyle and family through various endeavors, including hosting events and exploring new business opportunities.

While Ashley and Michael may no longer share a close bond, the two are committed to co-parenting harmoniously. Ashley’s journey on RHOP continues to captivate audiences, offering a glimpse into her life post-divorce.
