Reassuring RHONY Fans: Rebecca Minkoff Isn’t “Praying to L. Ron Hubbard” or Anything Like That!

In his book Science of Survival, Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard touches on the concept of God, describing it as the “Eighth Dynamic”—an urge toward existence as infinity. He explains this dynamic as embracing the “allness of all,” a rather convoluted way of expressing the idea.

Scientology emphasizes training, or “auditing,” over traditional faith. This process involves answering a series of questions designed to help members become more aware of their true nature. This aspect of Scientology particularly resonates with Rebecca Minkoff, who joined the RHONY cast in Season 15. But will her beliefs stir up more drama on the show?

Could Rebecca Minkoff’s Love of Scientology Add Drama to ‘RHONY’? Probably Not.

In a June 2021 interview with The New York Times, Rebecca openly discussed her beliefs but clarified that she isn’t trying to convert anyone. “I think there’s a lot of confusion when people hear the word ‘religion,'” she explained. “Immediately you hear that I pray to L. Ron Hubbard.” She emphasized, “That’s not it at all.” Rebecca identifies as both Jewish and a Scientologist, a combination that many find puzzling.

She engages with Scientology through its classes, finding them helpful for maintaining focus. “I don’t have all the answers,” she admitted. “When I needed someone, it was a place for me to go get some answers.” Instead of addressing the criticism often directed at Scientology, Rebecca mentioned facing “horrific misinformation” and described her approach to it as treating the practice like a “self-improvement philosophy.”

Rebecca Minkoff’s ‘RHONY’ Castmates React to Her Beliefs

It didn’t take long for Rebecca’s castmates to weigh in on her religious views. In Episode 2, Brynn Whitfield, a publicist, asked Rebecca how they should respond if the media inquired about her involvement with Scientology. Rebecca suggested that they either decline to comment or direct questions to her. Brynn, drawing on her PR experience, pointed out that a “no comment” wouldn’t suffice. Rebecca replied, “I just tell people, ‘If you’re curious, read a book.’ That’s it.”

Jenna Lyons, a fellow designer, offered a more balanced perspective during a confessional. “Every single religion or organized religion has an extreme version of it, and if you only look at that, that’s not really a fair assessment,” she observed.

Meanwhile, Ubah Hassan seemed indifferent to the topic, and Erin Lichy took the opportunity to dig for gossip about John Travolta. Brynn wrapped up the episode with a playful jab, saying, “I feel like I’m talking to a door-to-door salesman or someone who’s trying to sell me snake oil.”

Only time will tell if anyone on RHONY ends up being labeled a “suppressive person,” but for now, the reactions remain mixed.
