Shocking! Candiace Dillard Bassett Faces Dangerous Complications After Giving Birth to Her First Child!

Former Real Housewives of Potomac star Candiace Dillard Bassett recently shared the tumultuous journey she faced following the birth of her first child, son Jett Maxwell Lee, with her husband, Chris Bassett. Although Jett’s birth was smooth, Candiace encountered severe and unexpected health complications soon afterward, casting a dark shadow over her early days of motherhood.

Initially, Candiace and Chris had checked into the Sanu Postnatal Retreat in McLean, Washington, to recuperate and bond with their newborn in a peaceful setting. But just days after delivery, she began experiencing severe, unrelenting pain in her lower abdomen. “The pain was so intense, I couldn’t walk, move, or even care for my baby. I was completely paralyzed,” she told People. Despite taking painkillers, the discomfort persisted and worsened, leaving Candiace bedridden and unable to fulfill even the simplest of maternal duties.

This physical struggle led to a significant emotional toll, with Candiace battling profound feelings of helplessness. “I felt trapped, unable to care for my child. Without Chris, I don’t know how I would’ve managed. I was a shadow of myself, just lying there, helpless,” she shared.

Upon her father’s insistence, Candiace finally returned to the doctor, where a CAT scan revealed a life-threatening blood clot in her left ovary. Thankfully, surgery was avoided, but she began a regimen of daily blood-thinner injections, which she must continue for six weeks. This treatment has provided her with both physical relief and an emotional lift. “Once I understood what was causing my pain, I felt like I could finally breathe again. My depression lifted, and I could start embracing motherhood the way I always dreamed,” Candiace explained.

Candiace’s journey to motherhood has been anything but easy. Though she had previously served as a stepmother to Chris’s three children from past relationships, she wasn’t initially certain about having a child of her own. During Season 7 of RHOP, she shared her decision to pursue motherhood and allowed the cameras to follow her IVF journey. Shortly after Season 8 concluded, she announced her pregnancy and decided to step away from the show to focus on her family.

Today, as she navigates these new challenges, Candiace remains hopeful and grateful for the opportunity to finally care for Jett and embrace her new role as a mother, describing it as “everything I wanted and more.”
